Celebrate Earth Week 2010 and the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day at Boise State University
http://news.boisestate.edu/blog/2010/03/23/earth-day-40th-anniversary/

More than a billion people in nearly 200 countries are taking action for Earth Day 2010 — 40 years after it was founded. Boise State University is recognizing the milestone as part of its celebration of Earth Week from April 19-24, hosted by the Volunteer Services Board, Sustainability Club, University Dining Services and Office of Energy Research, Policy and Campus Sustainability.

Everyone is invited to join in the fun and the conversation about efforts to advance stewardship, from climate policy to energy efficiency. Activities will take place all over campus:

Monday, April 19
Earth Week Kickoff: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Student Union Patio. Free ice cream and sorbet will be served from noon-1 p.m., live band Owl Right will provide entertainment, and booths will be set up for campus clubs and community organizations with an environmental focus.

University Dining Services has been offering tray-less dining for more than a year and, in partnership with students, has reduced waste, water usage and impact on the environment. Witness the impact through this unique demonstration, where the waste from diners’ plates will be scraped and weighed to measure what further reduction could do for Boise State and the environment.

Faculty Speaker: 5:30 p.m. in the Student Union Brink Room. Geosciences professor Jen Pierce will talk about climate change in the Western United States.

Wednesday, April 21
Sustainable Market: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Boise State Quad. Sustainable food and crafts produced locally will be available for sale.

Free coffee and breakfast snacks will be provided.

Carnival: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Boise State Quad. Games, outdoor activities and booths will be set up featuring environmental organizations and groups.
